vet-and-wild:

Literally what’s the point of keeping reptiles if you’re not interested in learning about the newest science on how best to keep them? If you’re keeping any animal the same way as decades ago you’re doing it wrong. The science of animal husbandry advances quickly and it’s fascinating and fun to learn about. Why would you even bother to keep a wild animal and not learn about it? Half of what I find enjoyable about keeping reptiles is learning about their natural history and care requirements! Maybe I’m just a weird nerd but trying to replicate as natural of a habitat as possible is just…fun. Getting to see my animals basking, digging, or exhibiting other natural behaviors is so satisfying.

Isn’t the point of pet ownership to enjoy your pets? How is keeping them in sterile, unnatural enclosures enjoyable?
