how would one go about getting an adult cat to be okay with having their teeth brushed? are there any other ways to care for their teeth that don't involve brushing? i have a cat with a bit of an overbite and i can see a buildup forming on his front teeth, and now i'm worried about the rest of his teeth.

vet-and-wild here.

Your best bet to get your cat accustomed to having his teeth brushed is a slow, gradual desensitization. Pam Johnson Bennett, a cat behaviorist, has a helpful article with some tips. One thing to keep in mind is that cats have small mouths and standard brushes might be too big and awkward for them. You may be better off with a small kid’s toothbrush or even a finger brush. In terms of other products, anything with the VOHC seal of approval has at least some proof of efficacy.
