NOT GREAT!

But that specific quote is right? Influencing young people is a powerful force to spread your beliefs, for better or worse?

“Our children are our greatest treasure. They are our future.” -Nelson Mandela

“Children are the world’s most valuable resource.” -John F Kennedy

“We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.” -Franklin D. Roosevelt.

“I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way.” -Whitney Houston

Literally no reason to make that point by invoking Hitler. Like… the Hitler. Adolf “lemme just kill off every Jewisj and Romani person in Europe real quick” Hitler. Did I mention she literally quoted Hitler? If not: YEAH IT WAS HITLER.

Like, if she wanted to quote a conservative asshole, she could have at least gone with Billy Graham’s “The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.”

But no—she chose Hitler. You know why? It was a message. A dog whistle. She knew her audience, and they knew her.

she just wanted to find a context in which to say “hitler was right”, knowing that her target audience will appreciate it, but even “reasonable” people who hate nazis will jump to her defense by saying “weeellll if you think about what she actually said she’s not technically wrong per se…”

don’t quote hitler unless you’re pointing out that he was a fucking genocidal monster, because that’s the only part anyone actually cares about.

“I relate to Hitler because he ate food, drank water, and breathed air” conveys a powerful political message that has nothing to do with with food, water, or air.

I would suggest it is also worthwhile to quote Hitler if you are doing so to point out hate within other groups—as in “look at how this mirrors that.” But there really is no inspiring message of any kind to take from Hitler.

Also you’ll notice that all the other quotes provided are like positive messages about having faith in the youth and passing on the world to them. Whereas Hitler’s quote has strong overtones that sound more akin to “We need to manipulate the youth to believe what we want them to”
